Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE: DELL) is headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, and is the world's largest direct-sale PC and server company by revenue. Unlike pure-play ODMs (Quanta, Wiwynn, Supermicro) that manufacture for hyperscalers without branding, Dell sells branded enterprise servers and storage to enterprises, governments, and mid-market companies. In the AI server market, Dell occupies the enterprise segment — large corporations, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and government agencies that need AI compute on-premises or in private clouds. Dell's key AI server products include: (1) PowerEdge XE9680 — 8× NVIDIA H100/H200 GPUs in a 10U chassis with NVLink interconnect; (2) PowerEdge XE8640 — 4× NVIDIA H100 or Intel Gaudi 3 accelerators in a denser 4U form factor; (3) PowerEdge R760xa — a 2-socket, 4× GPU rack server for mixed CPU+GPU workloads. Unlike Quanta (which designs custom servers from scratch for hyperscalers), Dell adapts standard server designs to accommodate the customer's software and support requirements — a value proposition centered on enterprise IT integration, ProSupport services, and Dell's existing sales relationships. Dell's AI server revenue grew over 100% year-on-year in 2024, driven by enterprise adoption of generative AI. The company had $3.8 billion in AI server orders in its backlog as of Q2 FY2025, with NVIDIA H100-based systems representing the majority.
