Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) is China's largest and most advanced contract foundry, but it is frozen at approximately 14nm process nodes because access to ASML EUV lithography machines is prohibited under U.S. and Dutch export controls. Placed on the U.S. Entity List in December 2020, SMIC continues to fabricate chips for Huawei HiSilicon and other domestic Chinese customers using older-generation equipment supplied by TEL, Applied Materials, and Lam Research under legacy licenses.
